Bass clarinet course
The Raasay solo bass clarinet course will celebrate its ninth year in 2018 and has attracted players from all over the world.
Tutored by Sarah Watts with pianist Antony Clare, the course is open to all standards and the focus is on improving all aspects of bass clarinet playing from basic to more advanced technique throughout the week.
During the week participants will have opportunities to have an individual lesson and work on a solo piece of music. A strong emphasis is placed on chamber music with several sessions being devoted to group warm-ups, the Raasay bass clarinet choir and plenty of chances to play in smaller bass clarinet ensembles. Scottish music will be featured.
There will be talks on areas of techniques such as how to avoid squeaks and how to play high notes and a session on listening and discovering all about the world of solo bass clarinet.
Our aim is for each participant to achieve their own personal goal during the week.
Although mostly separate from the bassoon course, we will join forces in rehearsals and concert to form the Raasay bass clarinet and bassoon choir - quite a sound!
There will be plenty of time during the week to explore the island and to socialise and soak up the special atmosphere that is Raasay.
